Comment from JAK: First off, I am sorry about the fonts on this page. For some reason, I can't get the editor to agree on a single font for the page. As for the content, two interesting point of overlap with other discussions. Like your department, the Social Science department also seems concerned with assessing their teaching of writing. There has been discussion there about the use of rubrics as well, but also about the scope and sequence, if you will, of the development of writing skills. Second, I notice that you seem to have identified "responsibility" as an essential theme in your exploration of literature. You might note on the grade level pages that in several grade level discussions, the issue of responsibility also identified as a component of the curriculum that we may want to explore, study, and/or develop further.
